Handy Tent FAQ's

What do I need to prepare for a tent set-up?

Built for Saskatchewan. Literally.

We’ve been installing tents across Saskatchewan for more than 35 years, so we know outdoor events here come with a few variables. Wind, weather, ground conditions and site access all matter. Our experienced team plans for them.

We’ll work with you to choose the right tent for your event, guest count and site, then make sure it can be safely anchored and positioned before installation begins.

Here’s how it works:

01 — TELL US WHAT YOU’RE PLANNING
Start with a complimentary consultation. Tell us about your event, guest count, location and how you want to use the space. We’ll recommend the tent and layout that make sense.

02 — WE CHECK THE SITE
For applicable installations, our team will visit the location to look at access, ground conditions, overhead obstacles, available space and anchoring requirements. A great tent plan starts with knowing exactly what we’re working with.

03 — LOCATE THE LINES
Before installation, underground utilities must be properly marked through digsafesask.com. Our tent stakes go deep into the ground, so line locates aren’t optional. They’re an important part of keeping everyone and everything safe.

If staking is not feasible, we can suggest cement block anchoring for our Marquee Tents and Clearspan Tents.

04 — WE BUILD THE SPACE
With the planning done, our experienced installation team takes it from there, properly positioning, anchoring and securing your tent for the site and Saskatchewan conditions.

Good events start with a good plan. Safe ones do too.

The customer is responsible for locating all underground utilites and priate lines, including irragtion, before installation.

We’ll walk you through what we need before our crew arrives. For a free locate, request a line locate at www.digsafesask.com. It is never too early to request a line locate.

For your safety and for a seamless experience:

  • Pop-up tents are all yours to grab and set it up yourself! It’s quick, easy, and gets you right into the action.
  • For our larger tents, leave it to the pros! Our crew will deliver and install everything, making sure your setup is secure, compliant, and ready for the the guest to arrive. You focus on the fun, we’ll take care of the rest!

Absolutely. The tent is just the beginning.

We can help build the entire space around it—from flooring and lighting to dance floors, staging, furniture and the details that make an outdoor event actually work.

Tell us how you want to use the space and we’ll help pull the pieces together, plan the layout and coordinate the setup so everything feels connected from the ground up.

More than a tent. A venue built around your event.

Absolutely. One size definitely doesn’t fit every event. Our tents start at 10′ × 10′ and can go all the way up to a 90′ × 210′ continuous structure, with plenty of sizes and configurations in between.

Tell us your guest count, location and how you want to use the space, and we’ll help determine the right tent for your event. Ten people or thousands. We’ll build around what you need.

We’ll help you figure that out. Tent size depends on more than guest count. Seating style, tables, bars, dance floors, stages, catering, displays and even how you want people to move through the space all affect the footprint.

Tell us what you’re planning and we’ll build a layout around your guest count, event needs and site, then recommend a tent size that gives everything enough room to work.

Because the right tent isn’t just about fitting everyone in. It’s about making the whole event fit.

Absolutely. We take the tents on the road. Saskatoon is home, but our tent crews travel throughout Saskatchewan, and we’ve even crossed the border into Manitoba for installations in Brandon.

Tell us where your event is, what you’re planning and your guest count, and we’ll work through the tent, site requirements, travel and logistics with you.

Your event doesn’t have to be in Saskatoon for Handy to show up.

Start with the basics:

  • Event date
  • Event location
  • Approximate guest count
  • Type of event
  • Seating style, if known
  • Any must-haves such as a stage, dance floor, bar or catering area
  • Photos or information about the proposed tent site

Don’t have all of that yet? That’s okay. Start with what you know. We’ll help with the rest.

We take weather seriously. Our tents are professionally installed and anchored according to the tent, site and installation requirements, but tents are still temporary structures and severe weather can change the plan.

Our team monitors conditions around installation and will communicate with you if weather creates a safety concern. Guest and crew safety always comes before the schedule.

Should the weather change to bad when your event is happening it is your responsibilty to evacuate all guests from the tent. DO NOT take shelter from a storm under the tent.

Sometimes, and this is why we ask about your site early. Different surfaces require different anchoring methods, equipment and planning. Send us information about the location and our tent team will determine what installation options are available.

Definitely more than weddings. We provide tenting for corporate events, festivals, sporting events, community celebrations, tradeshows, brand activations and large-scale public events, alongside weddings and private celebrations.

It depends on the tent. Size, style, site conditions, flooring, accessories and the complexity of the installation all affect the timeline.

A 10′ × 10′ and a 90′ × 210′ structure are very different projects. We’ll build installation and removal timing into your event plan so you know what to expect.

Note: Our one day rental rate covers you having access to the tent the day before your event and picking it up the day after the event.

If you are renting a tent and having it installed in Saskatoon or the surrounding area our tent rental rates already include setup/tear down and delivery. If we are traveling outside of Saskatoon and surrounding area additional kilometre charges will apply to delivery.

Your event. Your space. Built from the ground up.
